Interior Painting-Textures and Colors Painting

Few things can change the look and personality of a room like adding some textures and colors to the walls by doing a little interior painting. You can completely transform a room, and your mood when you are in it, with a different color of paint.

Interior Painting with Colors

Paint manufacturers today have about any color you can imagine, and some you can't. Visit a few paint showrooms and pick up some paint chips to take home. Hold them up against the wall, and try to get an idea of how the room will look in those colors. Keep in mind your furniture will need to blend also, unless you are purchasing new furniture. A few tips when picking interior painting colors:

  • Darker colors may make your room look smaller
  • Lighter colors may make your room look larger
  • Intense dark colors are difficult to touch up if you ever need to do so

Interior Painting with Textures

Interior painting with textures will add definition to your walls, and can also cover up minor defects in your wall's surface. If you have outdoor views from the room, consider using warm earth tone colors which can create the effect of bringing the outdoors inside. Texture painting is done by applying a base coat followed by a second coat with an added glaze. Texture painting is often done by adding the second coat with a:

  • Sea sponge
  • Paint roller
  • Soft rag such as an old T-shirt

You may also choose to put the second coat on with a standard roller, and then remove part of it using a sponge or rag. Experiment using both methods, and choose the one that best suits the mood you want to create.

Using Quality Paint

Using Quality Paint
When it comes to painting, about 90 percent of a good paint job is in the preparation. This, however, doesn’t mean that the other 10% should be ignored. Preparation gets the surface ready for paint, but if the paint isn’t of good quality then it will soon fall apart from cracking, peeling and chipping. The quality of the paint, therefore, is vital to a good, long lasting paint job.
